On Sunday, June 5, a NOPD officer was critically injured having been hit by a vehicle in New Orleans.
According to the police, the accident happened on Interstate 10 at the Esplanade St. exit when 31 year old First District Officer Natasha Hunter, who had been with the department for 12 years, was inside her police vehicle on the shoulder of the road, with the emergency lights on. Her vehicle was then hit by another vehicle and she suffered massive brain injuries.
The driver of the other vehicle was taken to a local hospital and will be arrested. It is thought that alcohol played a role in the accident.
Hunter is currently still in a non responsive state in hospital.
This accident happened only one day after a Winnsboro Parish police officer was killed during an early morning traffic accident while responding to a call.
